Beka Cooper 'Bloodhound'

Personal response:
I gave this book 5/5 because I like the plot, the mix of genre and the description. Some of the words seemed made-up, but there is a glossary at the back which explains those words. I think that the author has used more description in this book than they did in the first book.
I find the ending of this book good and it made me want to read the next book.

MYST, The Book of Atrus

Authors: Rand and Robyn Miller with David Wingrove

Genre: Science Fantasy, Adventure

Rating: (5=great, 1=don't touch)

Date: 26/5/11

Plot summary: Atrus, who is living in a desert cleft

with his grandmother, Anna, next to a volcanoe, get's

taken from his life to a new one in the ruins of D'ni,

by his father Gehn (said as Gain), Who teaches him to

'write', to make worlds by writing in a special kind of

book. But when him and his father have a

disagreement, Atrus realizes that there is a dark side

to 'writing', which his father intends to use to gain

power which he craves.

Personal response: I think that this book has good

description, a good plot, and that it has good use of the

few pictures that it has in it. If you haven't played any

of the 'MYST' games then you might find some of the

things in this book a bit hard to understand.

Something that I think the Authors should've written

about more is explaning the things in this book that

don't get explaned by the characters such as 'The great

D'ni quake' and maybe some D'ni words. If you are a

person who likes adventure and some very made-up

things in books then this would be a good book for

you. (If you can find it, it is a very old and forgotten

book so it would be very hard to get.)

I do have a copy of this book but it is very precious to

my dad which might mean that I can't lend it to anyone

to read.

The Famous Five: Five Go Down To The Sea

Author: Enid Blyton
Genre: Adventure, children’s fiction
Rating: (5=great, 1=don’t touch)
Date: 8/06/11

Plot summary: The famous five go down to the Cornish coast with the intentions of not doing any adventuring. However, when the children discover that someone is lighting the light up in the old lighthouse used by ’the Wreckers’ a long time ago, the children set themselves a quest to figure out who it is. They then find out that the grouchy old Guv’nor of ‘The Barnies' might have something to do with it.

Personal response: I quite liked this book because it has good illustrations and I like the plot. I also really like Enid Blyton’s books and they have good description. Something that I think could’ve made the book better would be to have the illustrations closer to the text that they seem to be relating to. I wouldn’t recommend this book to higher-level readers as most of the words are quite simple and older readers might find that the story goes a bit slowly compared to the books that they like.

He then gets completes the series of challenges that lie beyond that trapdoor to try to save whatever is being hidden. Only to find that Voldemort has gotten there first...

Personal Response: I gave this book 5/5 because I think that it has a good plot and good characters and description. I really enjoyed this book and I think that it has a good level of humour as well. I would reccomend this book to anyone because I think that its a good book for readers of all levels. Its not a book where it is constantly changing the scene and/or time and it has lots of great cliff-hanger endings to chapters and some paragraphs. I loved this book and it's a great book for me to read more than once.
